Taking Care of Mind, Body, and Soul

Dear Friends,

With the warming weather, we have noticed the significant ways that sunshine and longer days have impacted our moods and those of our clients. We don’t often stop to think about the fact that we are whole people- mind, body, and soul. It is easy, especially in the winter months, to become disconnected from ourselves. We forget how much we rely upon our physical bodies for the health of our minds and emotions. Meeting basic needs like sleep, diet, and exercise are crucial for clear thinking and bringing the best version of yourself to relationships.

Our bodies were created with limitations and though it is tempting to push ourselves to the edge of our capacity at times, these limitations are a gift. Like a healthy fear response to imminent danger, hitting physical limitations like exhaustion or a weakened immune system let us know when we are creeping towards burnout. They prompt us to attend to our bodies and take action to care for them.

As you enjoy the spring weather, consider a few ways that you can prioritize the things that nourish you!

  • Scheduling an annual physical to get a picture of overall health
  • Limiting screen time and technology use
  • Eating seasonally with a visit to a local farmer’s market
  • Prioritizing social connection even when other tasks demand attention
  • Creating margin for play to boost mood, creativity, and problem solving
  • Finding creative ways to move your body as much as possible during the day
  • Developing a nightly wind-down ritual to get the best night’s sleep

If  you are experiencing the effects of burnout or just looking to develop new habits in this season, our team would love to help!

Sincerely,
The Willow Springs Counseling Team
