Dear Friends,
The holiday season brings many moments of beauty, but it can also bring up unexpected disappointment. If we are not attentive, our hearts can drift toward comparison and the sense that our lives should look more like past seasons or what we see on social media. When we walk through transition, loss, or a year that feels heavier than expected, it’s easy to dwell on what we lack.
At Willow Springs, we believe that God’s word reinforces the psychological principles that lead to positive mental health outcomes. James 4:1-10 reminds us that the deeper conflicts we experience often grow out of deeper desires. Our desires are not inherently bad or wrong, but when they become demands, they can stir frustration, strain our relationships, and leave us feeling restless. A small miscommunication or an unmet expectation can intensify the ache we already feel.
Instead of trying to control outcomes or protect ourselves from disappointment, Scripture invites us to draw near to God with honesty. Naming our unmet desires through prayer and sharing our struggles with those around us can create room for healing. In our work with individuals, couples, and families, we are continuously reminded that joy is not found in controlling situations or suppressing emotions. Real joy comes through emotional honesty, renewing our minds with the truth of God’s word, and connecting deeply with others even when faced with disappointment.
This season, we pray that you find freedom in returning to the God who draws near to the brokenhearted and that the comfort of the Holy Spirit brings you peace.
Sincerely,
The Willow Springs Team
